Brighter pupils at Brent Knoll Primary school

A total of 9 Solatube systems, each with their own daylight dimmer, have been installed in 2 classrooms at the school.

Staff had expressed their frustration at how dark the classrooms remained, even on bright days, with the need to keep lights on thorughout the day. The systems were all successfully installed in to conventional suspended ceiling grids during 2 and a half days over the half term period.

Although it's early days yet we are hoping staff and pupils alike will appreciate the benefits of the addtional light. With daylight dimmers attached to each unit is is possible for teachers to easily dim down the light pipes from a single switch, during white board presentations.

Extra rooms at residential care home

When a Somerset care home was finding it difficult to let 4 rooms because potential residents found them to be too dark, Solatubes were able to brighten things up. The additional light provided by each Solatube made all the difference and should also help to left spirits and aid recovery. In particular, it had been felt that one room could not be let at all as it was considered to be too dark - a significant loss of income. The Solatubes ensured that this room was brough back in to the revenue stream making it easily lettable and hence making an important contribution to income levels.

Solatube serves up a lighter pint

When speciality beer makers, Otter Brewery decided to create a new underground eco-cellar, they soon realised that the advanatages of the subterranean location would also present them with a problem - no daylight.

Otter Brewery contacted Common Sense to discuss the options for daylighting the new cellar - a mission that became even more challenging when it became apparent that there was no access to the roof to pipe the daylight in.
